Guitarist 4.0

The Shadow Orchestra seems to go through guitarists as fast as Spinal Tap goes through drummers. We’re currently on our fourth in six months. Honestly, it’s not us, it’s them…

First there was Chris Warren (Bib/POLSKY):

Chris Warren. He did not die in a freak yachting accident, but instead moved to Brighton

Energetic, passionate and with an effects board to die for, Chris parted ways with us just before Christmas 2008, after playing a blinding final gig at the Jazz Cafe.

Next came Sam Walton (Alice Gun/Sinking Cruise Ship Rescue Drama/Gamages Model Train Club):

Sam. Great guitarist. Full diary.

Sam helped us to overcome our writers’ block, helping to create a bunch of awesome new tunes which will soon be recorded and released (Rocket Pack, Direct Out, Epic Tune/First Wam Day, the as-yet-unfinished Vampires in Cuba/Blood Cigar and the too-cheesy-even-by-my-standards Trace). Sadly, Sam’s other bands got precedence over us, and he had to leave after playing two great gigs (Off the Tracks festival in Derby, and Goodbye Faithfull Kindom at the Macbeth in Hoxton).  I cried when he left. Seriously.

Then we had Ben Kelly:

Ben. he is actually a lot more ginger than this in real life, but that's not a bad thing

Ben was a hero, learning our entire set in two rehearsals and playing a blinder at the Turntable Soul party at the Vibe Bar last weekend (thanks Ben!)

But sadly, this was only a temporary fling, and we are now settling down with Nick Siddall:

Nick - fourth time lucky?

This rather bad pic was taken by me at our first rehearsal/ jamming session last night at Treacle. Judging by the results, Nick is a keeper. We’re already generating new material, which should hopefully see the light of day at upcoming gigs (anyone want to book us? We’re looking for gigs in the Autumn). We may even be able to put some sneaky previews of the new tunes up here on the blog, so watch this space.

Over the next couple of weeks, the Shadow Orchestra will be recording a demo/EP/mini-album/oh whatever the hell it is, which we’re hoping to release in the Autumn, so it’s all very exciting 🙂
