Utter rubbish – The Naked Scientists

I was on the Naked Scientists again this week, talking even more trash than usual. We were discussing the science of waste and recycling.

This is a show that’s bound to appeal to my Dad, whose obsession with recycling extends to the point where he will rummage through bins for paper and card, or swing round a roundabout with the car door open to pick up a stray tin can.

Due to tehcnical hitches, the show was more stressful than usual, as we were having problems getting on of the guests on the line.

I think in the end he had to keep a phone clamped to his ear to hear the show, and talk to us down an ISDN line.  I think it sounded fine, but there were a few nervous moments when I wasn’t sure who I would be interviewing in the next 30 seconds.

Ah, the wonders of technology – and the joy of live radio.

Here’s the show in all it’s trashy glory, including news about giant pandas, geology and “immunometabolism”, along with DIY paper recycling kitchen science involving a pair of tights, and some really fascinating interviews about generating fuel from waste.

And, as always, here’s this week’s cake:

This week Chris wife was on strike. We had chocolate cake from M&S instead
