Songs for Modern Loving – live from our living room

Helen and her uke, live and direct from our living room

It’s that time of year again, when I get a plaintive email from my obscenely talented sister Helen asking to test out her embryonic Edinburgh fringe show in our living room.

Last year she road-tested “8 and a half songs about love (and other myths)“, including a pimped-up glockenspiel and much other silliness. This year’s show is called “Songs for Modern Loving“, entirely performed on the ukulele, with a guest appearance from a super-cute miniature harmonica.

I won’t lie to you (or her) – the show’s by no means finished yet, but there are plenty of gems in there. I partcularly loved the animal sex song, and the one about living in Stoke Newington (and, of course, my own masterpiece “The Science of Love“).

Here’s Mark and James, part of the small but perfectly formed audience:

James and Mark, and some beer

She’ll be performing at Just the Tonic at the Caves in Edinburgh at 7.30 every night from 5th to the 29th August, so do pop along to see her if you’re up there.

I’ve promised to write her a new tune for the show, so I’d better get cracking.
